The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime with the arrest of seven suspects involved in various criminal activities across Sango-Ota, Owode-Egba, and Agbado areas of the state.
The arrests were made during coordinated intelligence-led operations conducted by operatives of the Command as part of efforts to strengthen security and protect residents from criminal elements.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects were arrested for offences ranging from armed robbery, house breaking, stealing, conspiracy, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
Three Arrested Over Armed Robbery in Sango-Ota
Operatives attached to the Sango-Ota Division arrested three suspects identified as Pelumi Akintande, 21, Mojeed Sanusi, 28, and Mubarak Lateef, 17, following an armed robbery incident reported in Alasia Community.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly participated in an attack on a resident during which valuables were forcefully stolen. Acting on credible intelligence and information provided by members of the public, officers swiftly tracked and apprehended the suspects.
A locally fabricated cut-to-size pistol and an expended cartridge believed to have been used during the robbery operation were recovered from the suspects. Police authorities disclosed that efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang who escaped during the operation.
Suspect Nabbed for House Breaking and Theft in Ofada
In a separate operation, operatives of the Owode-Egba Division arrested 22-year-old Damilare Makanjuola in connection with house breaking and stealing incidents in Ofada.
The suspect was apprehended after allegedly scaling a fence and attempting to unlawfully gain entry into a shop. Further investigations reportedly linked him to a series of burglary cases within Sun City Estate, Ofada, where electrical appliances, cash exceeding ₦100,000, and other personal valuables were stolen.
Police confirmed that several recovered items have been secured as exhibits while investigations continue.
Two Arrested While Attempting to Sell Stolen Property
Also in Owode-Egba, police operatives arrested Tijani Jubril, 28, and Ezra Modi, 22, for conspiracy and stealing within Treasure Island Estate, Awo Village.
The suspects were intercepted while allegedly attempting to dispose of stolen electrical appliances concealed in a sack. Preliminary investigations indicated that the items had been removed from a residential property after the suspects allegedly gained unlawful entry into the premises.
The stolen appliances were recovered intact and have been documented as exhibits.
Agbado Police Prevent School Area Disturbance
Meanwhile, operatives of the Agbado Division arrested Waris Adebesin, 22, for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and threatening violence.
Police said the suspect was found armed with a knife while allegedly creating tension around a secondary school environment. The swift intervention of officers prevented a possible escalation of panic and ensured the safety of students, staff, and members of the public.
The knife was recovered at the scene, and the suspect was taken into custody for further investigation.
Commissioner Commends Officers, Residents
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their professionalism, discipline, and prompt response.
He also praised residents for providing timely and credible information that aided the arrests, stressing that community cooperation remains critical in combating crime.
The police commissioner assured residents that the Command would continue implementing intelligence-driven strategies aimed at dismantling criminal networks and maintaining peace across the state.
All seven suspects remain in police custody and are undergoing further investigation. Authorities have assured victims that justice will be pursued diligently while efforts continue to apprehend other suspects connected to the various crimes.
