The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another major victory in its sustained war against kidnapping and violent crime, neutralising two suspected kidnappers, recovering a cache of exhibits including a firearm and ₦2.2 million suspected ransom proceeds, while successfully securing the safe release of an abducted victim.
The breakthrough operation, executed by operatives of the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit, highlights the growing effectiveness of the intelligence-driven security architecture being championed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, whose administration has intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the state.
According to information released by the Ogun State Police Command, the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State. Following the distress report, the Command immediately activated a coordinated rescue operation, deploying intelligence assets, surveillance teams and tactical operatives to track the kidnappers and secure the victim's freedom.
Security sources disclosed that investigators embarked on extensive intelligence gathering and strategic surveillance operations, applying sustained pressure on the criminal gang. The coordinated efforts eventually paid off when the victim regained freedom on June 18, 2026, without suffering physical harm.
However, the rescue operation marked only the beginning of a broader mission aimed at ensuring that those responsible faced justice.
Determined to dismantle the criminal network behind the abduction, operatives intensified follow-up operations and launched a manhunt targeting members of the gang. Acting on credible intelligence, officers traced suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate to a hideout within Ogun State.
What followed was a dramatic confrontation.
Police reports indicate that upon sighting the approaching operatives, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to evade arrest. The officers responded professionally, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire during which two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised.
Several other gang members reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds and are currently being hunted by security operatives.
A thorough search of the scene yielded significant recoveries. Officers recovered a single-barrel gun from one of the neutralised suspects, alongside an expended cartridge, a mobile phone and a cash sum of ₦2.2 million, believed to be linked to the gang's criminal operations.
Security analysts describe the recovery as another indication of the increasing success of intelligence-led policing strategies in disrupting organised criminal enterprises before they become more deeply entrenched.
The operation comes at a time when security agencies across Nigeria continue to intensify efforts against kidnapping, a crime that has remained one of the nation's most serious security concerns.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, CP Bode Ojajuni praised the gallantry, professionalism and courage displayed by members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. He noted that the success serves as a strong warning to kidnappers and other violent criminals who may be considering Ogun State as a base for criminal activities.
The Commissioner reiterated that Ogun State would remain hostile territory for criminal elements and assured residents that the Command would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, tactical operations and community-based policing initiatives aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
"Our resolve remains unshaken. We will continue to pursue kidnappers and violent criminals wherever they may seek refuge. Ogun State is not a safe haven for criminality," the CP stated.
The Command further called on residents to remain vigilant and continue partnering with law enforcement agencies by providing timely, credible and actionable information capable of preventing crime and enhancing public safety.
As investigations continue and efforts intensify to apprehend fleeing members of the gang, the latest operation reinforces a growing message emerging from Ogun State's security landscape: the net is tightening around criminal networks, and law enforcement agencies are increasingly leveraging intelligence, technology and tactical precision to stay ahead of evolving threats.
