When Leadership Prepares Ahead of the Storm: APC Fortifies Its Inner Circle

By Oladipo Oluwatosin

There is a timeless saying that “the best time to repair the roof is when the sun is still shining.” In politics, as in life, foresight often separates enduring leadership from reactive management. This wisdom underpins the recent decision by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to approve the appointment of Special Advisers, Advisers, and Senior Special Assistants to his office; an intentional step to strengthen the Party’s inner workings before political tempests arise.

The appointments reflect a deliberate effort to reinforce the administrative and strategic backbone of the APC at the national level. By expanding the advisory and support structure around the Chairman, the Party is positioning its National Secretariat for improved coordination, sharper policy formulation, and more effective engagement with stakeholders. As the idiom goes, “a stitch in time saves nine,” and the APC appears determined to act early rather than manage crises later.

Leadership, especially in a complex political environment, thrives on collective wisdom. The Scriptures affirm this principle: “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed” (Proverbs 20:18). The newly appointed aides are therefore not mere additions to a list, but strategic assets expected to bring experience, professionalism, and insight into the daily operations and long-term direction of the Party.

Beyond competence, the National Chairman has emphasized character and commitment. Congratulating the appointees, he urged them to demonstrate dedication, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to the ideals and objectives of the APC. This call echoes the biblical charge of stewardship: “Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2). In a political climate where loyalty is often tested, faithfulness remains the true measure of service.

Observers see the move as a signal of consolidation and preparedness. In the words of an African proverb, “when the drumbeat changes, the dance must also change.” By fortifying his inner circle, the National Chairman is ensuring that the APC’s leadership rhythm remains steady, coordinated, and responsive to emerging challenges.

With the appointments taking immediate effect, the message is unmistakable: the APC is choosing structure over improvisation and strategy over chance. Like the wise builder in Scripture who laid his foundation on solid rock (Matthew 7:24–25), the Party is strengthening its base so that when the winds of politics blow and the storms gather, its leadership house will not collapse.

In the final analysis, this development is more than an administrative exercise; it is a statement of intent. For a party that seeks to remain relevant and resilient, preparing ahead of the storm is not optional; it is wisdom.
