The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime following the arrest of two suspects in Ijebu-Ode who have been linked to a kidnapping and murder case under investigation in Edo State.
The suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode after intelligence-driven investigations by operatives of the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
According to the Police, the development followed further investigations into the arrest of two male suspects earlier apprehended by personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, whose activities had prompted ongoing inquiries by law enforcement agencies.
Preliminary findings revealed that the two suspects are wanted in connection with a kidnapping and murder incident reported in the Okada area of Edo State. Investigators further uncovered intelligence suggesting that the suspects are members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the crime.
During the investigation, police operatives recovered a pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones believed to be relevant to the case. The recovered items have been documented and taken into police custody as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
The Ogun State Police Command disclosed that because the alleged offences occurred outside Ogun State, the suspects and all recovered exhibits would be transferred to the appropriate authorities in Edo State for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and diligence of the officers involved in the operation, noting that their intelligence-gathering efforts played a crucial role in identifying the suspects and recovering important exhibits.
He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to preventing criminal elements from using Ogun State as a hideout or operational base, stressing that security agencies would continue to strengthen inter-state collaboration in tackling crime.
The Commissioner also assured residents that the Command remains focused on deploying proactive and intelligence-led policing strategies aimed at enhancing public safety and maintaining peace across the state.
Police authorities urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in combating crime and criminality.
The suspects remain in custody pending their transfer to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and legal proceedings.
