IBADAN, OYO STATE — The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued a woman and her 12-year-old twin sons who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation by the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).
The victims, identified as Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her twin sons, Peter and Paul, regained their freedom on Saturday evening after spending three days in captivity.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the rescue operation was carried out at approximately 7:30 p.m. on June 6, 2026, in Ibadan.
Mrs. Adegoke and her children were reportedly abducted on the morning of June 3, 2026, while she was driving the boys to school. Following the incident, security operatives launched intensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations aimed at locating the victims and dismantling the kidnapping network responsible for the crime.
The police disclosed that sustained intelligence efforts enabled investigators to track the movements of the kidnappers, leading to a confrontation between the suspects and FID-IRT operatives during the rescue mission.
During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while security personnel recovered two rifles believed to have been used by the criminal gang. The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been placed under protective care, where they are receiving medical attention and psychosocial support.
Inspector-General of Police commended the professionalism, courage, and dedication displayed by the operatives involved in the operation, noting that their commitment was instrumental in ensuring the safe rescue of the hostages.
The police further revealed that efforts have been intensified to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation. Preliminary intelligence suggests that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation.
Authorities assured the public that ongoing operations are focused on tracking down all individuals connected to the abduction and ensuring they face justice.
The Nigeria Police Force also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation, support, and patience throughout the rescue efforts.
